review 1: ***Copy generously provided in return for an honest review***It's not often I can say this, but I devoured every single part of JAMES GAMES in one sitting from the hilarious beginning, right down to the very last full-stop.I can honestly say that I have never laughed so hard whilst reading another book, as I did from reading this one...I was well and truly hooked!Fiona Artlett is living life to the max, and living every single minute of it.Being Amish...growing up was hard for Fiona. Deciding to leave the community, rather than choosing to be baptised into the Amish church. Fiona finds herself living with her strict aunt Caroline at the age of 16. But, once starting university, and after living her life so far in the confines of a strict community, Fiona starts to well and... more truly lets her hair down discovering loooots of boys along the way.One night of hot wall breaking sex at a concert with a mysterious masked stranger, becomes a bit of an issue for Fiona once she realises that Mr Mystery Bang, was no other than former child actor (now fellow uni goer) James Reid. The problem being that in order to pledge into Phi Delta Chi, participating in the annual 'James Games' prohibits the pledges from any interaction with the man himself. Stick to the rules, and the lucky winner wins a date with The former star himself.Banging James beforehand is an absolute no-no...unfortunately for Fiona, she's already been there, and keeping this massive revelation a secret becomes a task in it's self. But, trying not to win, may just end up putting you in the lead regardless!I absolutely fell in love with this story. Yes, there were a few mistakes here and there, but who the heck cares when the story is as gripping and hilarious as this one?!JAMES GAMES was extremely well written, and L.A. Rose manages to suck you right in and keep you gripped all of the way through. The characters were amazing, as were the secondary ones too. But, it was Fiona and her whitty one-liners and over confidence which made me fall for her character. She is strong, hilarious, and extremely comfortable in her own skin, and despite all of the 'hazing' she is punished with, she still takes it on the chin and remains true to herself by not becoming someone other than who she is. Not what others want her to become.Fiona and James' journey in this story will have you crying with laughter, and most importantly, begging for more from the fabulous author herself! I can't wait for L.A's next release, and can definitely now call myself a massive fan!5 MASSIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️PLUS A WHILE LOAD MORE :)
review 2: 4.5 Stars…or an A grade since this is college ;-) “Excellent weather we’re having, isn’t it? Perfect for nudity.” Why in the world is this girl Fiona Arlett naked and jumping out a window? That’s the first thing you have to wonder as the story opens, and the first impression you get of Fiona.Fearless…daring…in your face. Fiona is living it up during her first year at UCSD. She’s pledging a sorority; enjoying the college scene; and indulging her sexual appetite. Fionna might come off promiscuous at first, but her upbringing just makes it feel like…well Rumspringa. Her background is definitely a unique twist. And there’s quite a few refreshing elements to this story. For one, Fiona has quite a healthy sense of self-esteem. She doesn’t fret about her body image or worry she’s isn’t good enough for a celebrity or the elite upper-classman she associates with. In fact, Fiona says what she thinks and isn’t intimated easily. And then there’s James Reid. Turn book back to the front cover and smile. I don’t know where author L.A. Rose finds her cover men, (see cover of her first book, Adrian Lesson and you’ll see what I mean there too) but they make a great mental image when picturing the lead man. James is a former child star, now a senior at UCSD, and the prize in a yearly contest held by Phi Delta Chi. Hence, the title of the book. There’s parties; there’s pranks; there’s drama without any over-done angst. This book is a lot of fun with witty 1st person narration from Fiona and an overall feel-good aura. It’s also a coming of age story so some events cloud fearless Fiona’s perspective for a brief while, but that’s part of the growth and development within the characters, and both Fiona and James grow throughout the story. It is also a great lesson in looking past public personas and getting to know the real person underneath.Sorority pledging was the furthest thing from my own college scene, but that didn’t stop me from thoroughly enjoying the story. And I liked the way James and Fiona’s relationship was a blend of friendship and lust, fitting for their “new adult” age. Their “forbidden” sneaky escapades were a lot of fun, and James’s big announcement towards the end was one of my favorite scenes. Is Fiona’s reputation on the line? Will she escape Sigrid’s wrath or is she headed for a life of solitude in the desert with a shaved head? What drove James from all his fan girls’ TV screens? And is he letting something from his Hollywood past keep him isolated? If you want a cute, romantic story to lighten your day, James Games, is a winning read. less
