review 1: Oh my goodness, I think this book has definitely broken me out of the blah-boring-monotonous book rut that I have been stuck in for the last couple of weeks! This was legitimately one of the funniest books I have ever read, not in terms of content, but purely because of the numerous quips and one liners. Behold (and these aren't even the funniest of the quotes)..."The colour of that pantyhose is giving me clinical anxiety. I will discuss it with my therapist tomorrow""Or he survives on air and the blood of his enemies"Seriously, humorous words aside, I was surprised by how much I liked Rae (or should I say Georgette's) character. She was charming yet sassy, had a realistic and yet sometimes cynical view of the world, but was also able to see the best in others and her situ... moreation. Despite being a working girl, she had a lot of optimism and a beautiful way of looking at the world. I loved reading about Cohen coming out of his shell and becoming a likeable human being and (spoiler alert!) I started doing a little dance on the couch at the end of the book when Cohen came back for Rae a year later.
review 2: L.A. Rose is definitely going on my list of the most awesomesauce undiscovered authors of 2014. Because she is, and I'm not the only one who thinks so.Icy Pretty Love has a different dynamic to Adrian Lessons and James Games - the backstory is grittier, and we know about it from the get-go - after all, the book wouldn't exist without it.Rae is a prostitute, and judging by some of her actions and reactions, she's seen the darker side of things a little too often, but a skanky crack-whore she is not. This girl has a dream and she'll do whatever it takes to make it reality, even if it means travelling to the other side of the world to play the role of fiancee to the biggest arsehole on the planet. As someone who's used to being treated like scum, Rae naturally objects to her 'fiancee' Cohen's distain of everyone and everything, and with her habit of speaking before she thinks, she's quick to tell him so - coloufully and often.Cohen doesn't understand Rae's sunny disposition, it's something he can't have and doesn't deserve, but he finds himself wanting it anyway.Packed full of L.A. Rose's trademark humour, puns and one-liners, Rae and Cohen embark on a journey of discovery, but before long Rae will be off the clock, and her obligations will be over - so what happens next?Icy Pretty Love is funny and heartwarming, and it makes you evaluate your own priorities and behaviours - very subtly, of course, and with LOL's aplenty. It's also perfect to 'buddy read' with a friend (try it, you'll see what I mean).A fabulous 4/5 less
