review 1: Well, this was pretty darn delightful. I enjoyed the characters, it was well written, and took place in Northern Michigan, a place I know and love. I don't want to include spoilers here, but my one issue was with the concept that people don't judge and that paranoia about reactions is all in our heads. The inaccuracy of this message is addressed with some later musing by our heroine, but not convincingly given everyone's response to what happens on the boat in Traverse City. That is all I will say except to note that it stopped me from giving this 5 stars. Will absolutely be reading the remainder of the series.
review 2: I always enjoy this author's books. She's one of my favorite erotica writers. Her stories are - to borrow one reviewer's words - hedonisti... morec erotica. I was looking for a fun and sexy hot story and I got it, and more.The characters share one thing in common (not gonna spoil it here), and I noticed that overthinking things doesn't lead to good results. Why fix it if it isn't broken? That's what happened to Jake when he psychoanalyzed the situation. I'm glad Carly was strong enough and her freedom allowed her to fight for their love. One thing I like about Ms Alexander's stories, is the irrelevance of the time frame. Her way of describing the chemistry (sexual first and foremost) between the characters are plausible and they get swept up with the pleasure and have hot sex. Strong women in control couldn't help but fall for dominant men who just want to take care of them for a change. The kink was really exciting and love came afterwards.I didn't expect that both of them were tortured but they waded through that together. less
