review 1: This is the story of how a con man -- and, it would seem, pathological liar -- deftly drew others into his circle to pull off a major art forgery operation. Despite the authors conducting lengthy interviews and undertaking detailed research, they clearly intended to make this a popular read rather than a balanced historical account of what happened. If you're willing to accept that the book is primarily for entertainment, then dig in and turn the pages to find out how it all goes down!
review 2: I read Provenance in one sitting, after waiting for a long time to get it from the library. Expertly researched and crafted like a story, it examined the lives and motives of the varied cast of characters in Drewe's extremely elaborate con like any fictional story (cons
... moreequently, there's a sort of "dramatis personae" in the front of the book that lists all the mentioned players too). Since this book focuses so heavily on art it would have greatly benefitted from some photos–even black and white ones would have sufficed–but that's about my only complaint. less
