review 1: Whoa!!I don't really know what to say about this one. It's a fantastic read, there are a lot of twists and turns and I have literally nothing negative to say about this book. . . Yet for some reason, even though it was *so good* and a lot happened, I feel like it's sort of just a bridge into book three. I haven't read book three yet, but I just feel like this is a bridge. I can't really explain why. As I say, a lot happens and this book is an essential read, but it feels like it was really prep for the next book.My only question is - given what ends up going on with Lesina, surely Leila should have sensed who she was?Fantastically written though, once again and I can't wait to get stuck into the next installment.
review 2: Though I try to avoid YA books, I
... more would recommend When Water Burns. An easy book to read, I liked this book better than the first. Good character development for Leila, who becomes a lot stronger in both power and personality. I also liked the character of Keahi, who plays a nice contrast to 'perfect' Daniel whose constant comparison to a chunk hunk adonis can get a bit boring. Keahi however proves that imperfect and scarred can still be hot and sexy (much like my fave Zsadist lol). In saying that though, Daniels back story I found to be the best part of this book - moanasina and the power of the ocean and its creatures, loved it! It's refreshing to read a novel from a Samoan author, whose pride of being from Samoa and of Samoan culture is evident throughout. High five for Ms Wendt :) less
