review 1: This is Nikolai's happily ever after. As anyone knows that has read the earlier book Nico is the daredevil. He is a thrill seeker and from what we learn in this story he has always been that way. Nico is also the weapons expert for the Order. This story is a little different from the earlier stories in that Nico is off by himself for most of the story. This story takes place in Montreal and Nico is looking for one of the Gen One warriors that are living in the area. Some really nasty things happen to Nico and there are points that you wonder if he is going to live to fight another day. There are also a few times that I was surprised that Lucan didn't read him the riot act. I have liked Nico from the beginning but I was sure that he wouldn't find a mate any time in ... morethe near future. Reneta is an orphan that has grown up on the streets for the most part. She is a Breedmate with an unusual power. She can incapacitate any Breed with a sonic blast to their mind. Her biggest problem is her power is reflected back to herself. Reneta is strong, compassionate, and stubborn as they come. She lives to protect those unfortunate kids that need a helping hand. When Nico first meets Reneta she is in the service of the Gen One vampire that Nico is trying to save. He is drawn to her but he thinks that she is bonded to the Gen One so he backs off. Both of these people try so hard to avoid the attraction that is drawing them together. It take Reneta getting Nico out of the nasty situation that he finds himself in.This story also pushes the underlying plot forward. There are some very bad things that happen in Germany and those things will tear your heart out. But there are hints that one of Drago’s cohorts is behind the tragedy. It will be interesting to see what happens to Andreas Reichen.I cheered that one of Drago's warrior defects to Order and the circumstances that lead to that defection are precious. It is something that most aren't going to see coming. I hope that more of the warriors Drago has been breeding can be saved. We also get a hint that Drago is going to get what is coming to him.I enjoyed this story and it certainly made me want to start the next book in this series. This series is very, very addictive and I am glad that I have another seven books to read.
review 2: Première chose : J’ADORE la couverture et surtout le visage de Renata, douceur, mais fermeté. Deuxième chose : J’ai beaucoup aimé ce cinquième tome. Comme l’indique la 4eme de couverture, Renata est une femme qui sait se battre contre tout et tous. Son talent, lorsque vous comprenez comment il fonctionne, est tout simplement… Waouh ! Habituellement, je trouve les bons mots, mais pour le pouvoir de Renata, il est celui qui la garde en vie, même si sa vie n’est pas la meilleure qu’elle pourrait vivre, mais pour une enfant, que ne ferait-on pas ? Elle à beaucoup de force en elle, pas que grâce à son don, mais physiquement et émotionnellement. Elle connait le mot sacrifice, tout simplement parce que sa vie est un sacrifice permanent pour les autres et surtout pour Mira.Nous avions lu des éléments sur Nikolaï, en surface, dans les tomes précédents, mais celui-ci, étant consacré à lui et Renata. Nikolaï adore se battre, là-dessus, je pense que tous ceux qui l’ont lus pourront le certifier. Il doit effectuer un voyage pour le compte de l’Ordre et va tomber en quelque sorte aux pieds de notre jeune femme, la découvrant telle une compagne de sang. (Ceci n’est pas un spoiler, puisque seules les compagnes de sang peuvent avoir des dons et non les humaines ^^)Leur rencontre est très peu commune et alors qu’il pensait pouvoir jouer de ses charmes et lui montrer une facette des plus soft, c’est elle qui prendra le dessus et lui jouera un vilain tour.Tout n’était pas dans leur camp pour que cela fonctionne ou non et beaucoup d’événements vont leur tomber dessus. Très, très prenant comme histoire, entre des complots dans leurs refuges – les Havrobscurs –, le fait qu’il y ait une enfant dans l’histoire qui à une grande particularité, dont je tairais. De nouveaux personnages feront leur apparition dont un Gen-1 qui aura une place importante dans ce tome je trouve. Nous avons des vampires plus méchants, plus sanguinaire. De vrais vampires dans toutes leurs splendeurs, n’ayant aucun sentiment, aucune humanité, pas de pitié, juste des vampires comme ils devraient être. De futurs affrontements à venir dû au fait que le clan des méchants s’agrandit de manière très significative. Viendrait-on vers une apocalypse ? Aucune idée, mais les vampires de l’Ordre vont avoir du mal à tenir le bien autour des humains.Un dernier point, Andréas fait une courte apparition, mais assez remarqué, un peu comme les autres guerriers. Serait-il plus présent plus tard ? Affaire à suivre, tout comme la fin de ce tome qui nous plonge dans une noirceur sans précédent. Le tome est sombre, incontestablement, et j’aime ce qui est sombre lorsque l’on tombe dans le fantastique. Reste juste à savoir si la suite va continuer dur cette lancée ou non. less

Der fünfte Band "Gefährtin der Schatten" von Lara Adrians Vampirreihe "Midnight Breed", handelt von dem Kampftalent der besonderen Art Renata und ihrem Gegenspieler Nikolai, einem Ordenskrieger. Renate ist definitv einer meiner liebsten weiblichen Charaktere. Endlich mal eine Stammesgefährtin, die sich selbst zu verteidigen kann und nicht auf die rettende, beschützende Hilfe der Vampirkrieger angewiesen ist. Wahnsinn, Renata macht sogar einem ausgewachsenem Stammesvampir wie Niko alle Ehre und hat ihn mir nichts dir nichts zu ihren Füßen liegen und zwar nicht nur auf romantische Art und Weise. Aber natürlich hat auch Renata eine dunkle Vergangenheit, die sogar noch in ihre Gegenwart hineinreicht. Das lässt sie eiskalt und berrechnend werden, sie vertraut niemandem, vorallem keinen Männern. Außerdem hat sie eine tierische Angst davor, dass die Liebe ihr Leben gefährden würde, weil sie dadurch angreifbar wäre. Allerdings schafft Lara Adrian auch diese Konflikte aus dem Weg und schafft Nikolai und Renata eine wundervolle Liebesromanze. In diesem Band taucht zum ersten Mal ein wundervoll süßer neuer Charakter auf: Mira. Mira ist noch ein Kind. Renata fühlt sich für das kleine Mädchen verantwortlich und versucht selbst mit ihrem eigenen Leben, das Leben des kleinen Mädchens zu beschützen. Mira macht die Welt der Vampire um einiges bunter und vorallem niedlicher. Ich liebe dieses kleine Mädchen und freue mich bereits auf ihre eigene Geschichte. Außerdem wird die Nebenhandlung mit Dragos (dem Oberfiesling) und seinen Anhängern (überwiegend korrupte, machtgierige Vampire oder Rogues) immer verstrickter und spannender. Als Leser ist man sehr erpicht darauf mehr und mehr über seine Gen 1 Zucht zu erfahren.

Dopo la delusione di Rio, da cui mi aspettavo molto di più ho cominciato questo senza troppe aspettative, Nikolai non ha mai attirato la mia attenzione e non aspettavo certo con ansia la sua storia ma per fortuna questa volta non sono rimasta delusa.Renata è un bel personaggio, forte ma con le sue debolezze, paure e i suoi momenti di tenerezza, soprattutto con la bambina, e anche Niko ha un lato tenero che non era mai emerso nei libri precedenti. Mi è piaciuta l’evoluzione del loro rapporto, il rispetto verso le doti di guerriero dell’avversario che si trasforma in qualcosa di diverso, i dubbi di Niko che lei sia già la compagna di un altro guerriero e poi la diffidenza di Renata che è causa di parecchi problemi per il nostro povero vampiro, tutto questo per dire che ho apprezzato che la Adrian non abbia usato la troppo abusata formula del visto e piaciuto senza alcun motivo.Mi ha lasciata perplessa solo una cosa nei libri precedenti mi era sembrato di capire che dalla brama di sangue è molto difficile uscirne e Niko dopo una bella overdose di sangue supera tutto con un po’ di tranquillanti e una bella dormita? Mah…Per la serie non siamo mai contenti devo dire che mi sono mancati gli altri guerrieri e le loro compagne, mi è mancata l’azione.E adesso temo per il prossimo libro, Andreas è un personaggio che mi piace spero di non rimanere delusa come è successo con Rio.
