review 1: Pulitzer Prize winning Larry McMurtry is, in my opinion, the finest writer of western literature of recent decades. In addition to his standard fiction he often fictionalizes notable characters of the old west and in this effort changes pace again with researching and documenting the life of George Armstrong Custer as a refernce work. There have been many books on the subject, but since there was so much information available the author took the opportunity to tell the story of this maligned and disliked General as he sees it.

Actually more of a "coffee table" book but I gave it four stars because the pictures are beautiful.
