review 1: Sad that the Fleet of Worlds storyline is at an end but the Proteus storyline has me in anticipation of future books. Now that the fleet is down to 3, now that the type II Hyperdrive has been scaled to planetary proportions, now that the Puppeteers left behind on New Terra to form a new branch of the species.... (If they had companions on New Terra, that is) this opens up numerous storylines for the future. Not to mention that we still have to find out where the Ringworld went, if enough of the trillions of spaoient pak defendants survived the Blind Spot to save the Pak species/subspecies, and if Tunesmith wanted to ethnically cleanse the Ring world of if he might create more Protectors and seek to expand the Pak empire!!!
review 2: This book is most frequently
... more billed as the finale to The Ringworld series (despite the fact the fact that the cover clearly says that it wraps up BOTH The Fleet of Worlds and Ringworld series), but I think this book owes much more to the legacy of Fleet of Worlds than Ringworld. If I were reading it as the final to that series I would feel quite disappointed, if not outright cheated. But as a finale to Fleet it is quite good, even if it treads a little too close to tying everything up with a neat little bow. less

I always enjoy this universe . . . And they left it open for more. Still entertained

The knot is too neat. Gaps creak. But a typically great read from Niven.
