review 1: This was a speedy page-turner about a 22 year-old analyst at a fictitious investment bank in the year before the Big Banking Implosion that produced the Great Recession. Sophie Landgraf's smarts are offset by her naivete and insecurities and burning desire to succeed in a ruthless, testosterone-soaked environment. I thought she got the atmosphere, anxiety and frustration right, even though I would get frustrated with youthful Sophie's choices (no pun intended). An entertaining book.
review 2: Clear writing and multiple POV's keep this moving along nicely, but overall I found it a little thin. The banking elements weren't tense enough to keep me interested, but Hemphill does a great job of making the reader understand why people choose that kind of career.
... moreIt's almost refreshing to read a book with a protagonist that is decidedly normal, but it doesn't make for edge-of-your-seat reading. A good recommendation for someone wanting a New Adult title sans sexy bits. less

Boring, no character that I even liked. I could not finish it and wasted my money,

I found it sad that people really live like this.
