review 1: In the beginning of this book I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. I found their personalities and life experiences very vivid, but that is the only thing that I liked about this book. I had to force myself to finish this book. I found this book had a lot of potential but it just fizzled in the middle and the end. The story is basically just like the movie "Crash". Both I found were lacking.
review 2: I loved this book! Read it if you are looking for depth and not fluff. It made me feel something- sad, happy, hopeful. Even the most insignificant details prompted emotion in me. For example, a homemade birthday gift (aircraft carrier) from one little boy to another made me cry because of the simple beauty of it after such tragedy. I love the way ... moreit was written- you are there and can understand what people are going through without incessant, verbose descriptions. I'm ready for the next Laura McBride book! less
