review 1: Virginia Readers Choice Award:The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School won the Virginia Readers Choice Award for primary readers in 2014. This is a gingerbread man story with a twist. Instead of everyone chasing the gingerbread man, the gingerbread man is chasing his class. The students have left to go to recess, and the gingerbread man sets off through the school to find them. The main theme in this story is acceptance and being part of a group. This is a great addition to a folktale unit. There are so many gingerbread stories that could be compared and contrasted with this one. I've also baked gingerbread people with first graders, then chased them and found clues about their whereabouts when they ran away from us.
review 2: I picked this book for the g
... moreraphic novel style, but loved that it was a new take on the Gingerbread man. He wasn't running away, but was trying to run to catch the children who left him behind. This story follows the adventures that the gingerbread man gets into while trying to find the children who made him because he is their Gingerbread man. The illustrations done by Mike Lowery were adorable and as I said done in a comic book style. A very fun book and I will guiltily admit to wanting a gingerbread cookie after reading this. less
