review 1: Poetry on the theme of what water can be. The illustrations are rich and charming. There is some diversity but I wish there had been a tiny bit more. (One black fireman, please.)The book goes beyond the expected by having extensive end matter that explains the watery significance of each rhyme and image. (I was particularly glad of the 'Eagle flyway' one that explained birds use rivers to navigate while migrating. A glossary and Further reading on the subject of water deepen usefulness. A great text to use during a unit on water.
review 2: This was a phenomenal book to introduce your youngest readers to science! At first I was concerned that some of the concepts (when they were presented in two-word phrases with illustrations) were too advanced for young child
... moreren to grasp - but after the poem was finished, each concept (even the most basic ones!) were explained in more detail - but still simplified enough for young readers. I can't wait to share this with my own future children - and then we can go out in the world and try to experience some of these water phenomenon! less

As brilliant as A LEAF CAN BE. Fabulous duo of art and words, artist and poet.
