review 1: This novel is a good one to drop in and out of as each short story is compact. There were some interesting and some average stories. There were a number using Austen's Persuasion as their starting point and I enjoyed all of those. They ranged from a character being sent a ripped of page from Persuasion that sets off a series of events in his life. The story called Waiting filled in some of the gaps at the end of the novel itself. There was one based on the meeting of Captain Wentworth's sister and her husband Admiral Croft who are minor characters in the book. This book is a different take on Jane Austen's work and for that is worth reading.
review 2: When I first started reading this, I thought, "Oh dread. Jane Austen fanfic." But then I tried a story or two (
... moreand then three or four) and found that this was rather well-done Austen fanfiction. My biggest criticism is that there weren't enough stories related to Sense and Sensibility. That said, I enjoyed Jane Austen and the Mistletoe Kiss, When Only a Darcy Will Do, and What Would Austen Do? the most. The latter would be great for introducing high school kids to an Austen unit. This book would make a good Christmas present for an acknowledged Austen lover, and some of the stories could be enjoyed even by the uninitiated. less
