Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich

I’m totally kicking myself for not think of this sooner, but I should have been blogging Halloween books all month for my own version of 31 Days of Halloween…next year, I guess.

I love this time of year, the coolest stuff comes out in the stores. Yesterday I found this loving couple:

I couldn’t resist! But I needed a book to link them to to be able to share them with you. I found a good one!!

Adam Rex is an awesome illustrator and quite a poet it turns out. This scary-fabulous book is full of great poems about all of my favorite monsters.

Frankenstein’s Monster is hungry but has a bare cupboard, the Creature from the Black Lagoon didn’t wait an hour to swim after eating,

Dracula has spinach in his teeth, the Mummy refuses to go to bed,

and the Son of Dracula has a cavity. Frankie junior and the Son of Dracula look suspiciously like Charlie Brown and Linus…

Aside from all these awesome illustrations, Rex’s humor really shows in the poems. I think my favorite is the series of poems about the Phantom of the Opera. The poor guy has It’s a Small World, Pop Goes the Weasel, The Girl From Ipanema and B-I-N-G-O stuck his head.

I loved the monster cameos too. There isn’t a whole poem about the Bride of Frankenstein or Medusa, but they are in there. I loved this book so much, I think I’ll buy it for my personal collection, along with the follow-up that I don’t have at school.
