review 1: A Myrt's ReviewMastering the Marquess ( A Bound and Determined Book) by Lavinia KentHot Sexy Romance in a Bygone EraThis is a spicy piece of erotica that takes place in London during the highly restrictive era when Polite Society ruled.  The time period is unusual for erotica but the story works well in that setting.  Geoffrey, the Marquess of Swanston, the hero, has a strong penchant for BDSM and finds Louisa, Lady Brookingston, the heroine, to be incredibly innocent but equally open to the new experiences he is more than willing to share with her.  Their first encounter, which opens the book, takes place at a bordello and both are wearing masks.  Which is probably why when the two later meet and find themselves in a Society arranged marriage, they don't recognize eac... moreh other! However, they are still incredibly attracted to each other and have many steamy encounters.  This is a very sexy story with two well written characters. It's a seductive romp filled with hidden and confused identities, a cruel villainess who wants the hero to herself and lots of provocative sexual situations in a historically repressive time.I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
review 2: ARC received from publisher for an honest review. Mastering the Marquess by Lavinia Kent was a fun read. Louisa, Lady Brookingston is in a particular situation. Although she married her love they were never able to "form their union." When her husband passes she is left a widow. She realizes that if she remarries her husband's memory would not be honored because it would be known that they were never husband in wife. Louis goes to a house of pleasure where she asks Madam Rouge to help her with her problem. When Lord Brookingston is asked a favor he at first refuses but then changes his mind. Many of the topics covered are very risky and a huge part of Louisa and Geoffrey's relationship is physical. They both expose the other to limits that they did not know exist. Through twist of fate, Geoffrey ends up marrying Louisa never knowing that she was the person he encountered that night. As they begin to get to know each other their relationship depends and they form a relationship. Many aspects of this book were risky. At first I didn't anticipate liking the story but it was a fun, light and interesting read. less
