review 1: This book is about a young teenage girl who is sort of out of place in her high society environment. Everyone expects her to be sophisticated and ladylike, but instead she is quick-witted and likes to investigate crimes. Through a series of events she ends up going undercover to investigate who is her cousins blackmailer and where a kidnapped girl is. This book would be appropriate for middle schoolers through high school sophomores since it is a relatively simple book. It took me about a day or two to finish reading. Keeping in mind that it is historical fiction this book would not be helpful in AP European class since it mostly consist of mystery and a bit of romance. The characters are also pretty wealthy so it wouldn't help students understand how social life was back... more in Victorian Europe. This is just one of those type of books that you read when you don't have much to do and want to be entertained for a bit. My favorite parts of the book was the banter between the two main characters since I am a bit of a sarcastic person myself. Overall this book was enjoyable but not really useful if you are trying to learn something.
review 2: This is a really good book. The narration is not long-winded and is very concise, the dialogue intriguing and amusing. (spoiler alert here)> I can see traits of her biological father, Sherlock Holmes, in the protagonist. She does not fit the stereotype of a meek and subservient girl and engages the reader with her fiery passion to get to the bottom of the mystery with her quick-wittiness. Recommended! less

It was well written, but I was kind of disinterested and bored 90% of the time.
