review 1: I really liked the way the book started out and it was generally an interesting story but I just wasn't able to connect with the characters in this one. They just weren't very likeable in my opinion. Perhaps if there was a more in depth look at their feelings beneath all the tough exterior I would have been able to warm up to them more. The concept was pretty cool but unfortunately due to my inability to connect with the characters I wasn't persuaded to purchase the next books in the series because I didn't feel the need to know what happens to them.
review 2: I had this series archived on my Nook, which means I read it, but I had absolutely no clue. So I am reading it again, and kept waiting for more than vague moments of familiarity to bring it all back. Neve
... morer happened. But still I found it a good story and liked Sage and James, particularly James, even when I wanted to shake them until their teeth rattled. What I particularly have to give Shaw credit for is how faithful she was to maintaining Sage's rough edges and inability to trust after a lifetime of rejection and 14 foster care placements. It would have been so tempting to smooth the rough edges sooner, and make her more likable to the reader and to James, but she doesn't compromise. Maddox and Marcelo are more compelling characters that the romantic leads, but they are the types of characters who are easier to write--the funny charmer and the mysterious and wise vampire. Some of the plot points were a little too slick and easy, but the hero and heroine always remained true to their brokenness and themselves. less
