review 1: Not having an in-depth knowledge about the BDSM lifestyle, the psychology and the emotional investments especially, I can only review this story based on the level of interest it piqued and the level of enjoyment I derived from it. Structurally, the book was well-written. The characters, mostly because they were based on real persons, were very relatable. The plot, or more specifically the condition of their marriage and sexual life, was also intriguing; not because it was unique, but because what they went through is experienced by many other couples. How they handled it, however, was admirable and only proved that it takes two to make a marriage work and make it last and both parties should be invested in making their partner happy, in all ways. Although I sometimes... more found Sidney annoying and made me pity her husband Nick, I think her decision to explore her sexual fantasies further and get her husband involved was a brave one. And then there's sweet, loving Nick. I am very glad they found a way to make their marriage life better. These days, many couples give up way too fast and too easily.
review 2: This book hit so many triggers for me. I completely related to Sidney. Having gone through the same issues and eventual curiosity of the BDSM lifestyle; I immediately 'became' the main character. This book made me laugh, cry, pant and cheer. The emotional roller coaster was worth it at the end of the book. With the recent success of 50 Shades of Grey, this book could almost be a primer for all of the people now curious about the lifestyle. It will help them realize that there is no cookie cutter way to make BDSM play part of their own lives. There really are 31 flavors of ways to introduce this style of play into their sexual experiences. I would recommend this book to anyone. It is worth it and you will end up reading this book over and over. less
