review 1: This was an enjoyable read for the most part. The humour is nice...I chuckled in my head throughout the entire book. The Oscar Wilde quotes were perfectly integrated. Even though I loved the writing and I found it entertaining, for some reason, I felt like this book dragged on. I found myself looking forward to finishing it. I didn't find the story as compelling as the other novels I've read this year. But I'm still glad I read it, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more chick-lit type books!
review 2: Obviously I am quite alone in my feelings about this book so perhaps it's a generational problem. I honestly don't think Mace is anti-social which might be the entire point of the book. And that's the problem for me. I'm not sure what the point of this
... more book is. I truly found very little story here. Ms. Cunningham does not lack talent, in fact, she's an extraordinary writer. I just lost interest very early on. Mace is simply not an extraordinary enough of a character to keep my interest. And perhaps that's the point. None of us truly are. And call me selfish but I read a book to hear a story or follow a character who is so interesting I simply want to know everything about them. This was not the case with Mace. In fact, I found myself wishing the book was written from one of the other character's POV. less
