Review: A Monster Calls

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Synopsis

Conor has the same dream every night, ever since his mother first fell ill, ever since she started the treatments that don’t quite seem to be working. But tonight is different. Tonight, when he wakes, there’s a visitor at his window. It’s ancient, elemental, a force of nature. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor. It wants the truth.

My Thoughts

So I read this book at the end of November and I loved it even though it was the most heartbreaking book I have ever set my eyes on. I can relate to this book quite a lot and know what it’s like to feel the things that Conor does throughout this book, I’ve felt the fear and grief that death can cause but that’s why I adored this book, that’s why this book is so very important. This book is great for showing why it’s okay to grieve and cry and be angry when something bad is happening. The stories within the book explain how you feel when something as tragic as a family being ill is happening and I honestly believe that this book would an amazing tool for younger reading to learn about grief and the reactions that lots of people have to grief.

This book is a beautifully devastating read but the prose is so amazingly done that at times it’s heartwarming as well as scary and sad. If you haven’t read this book then I really recommend you do because the main story and the stories from the Monster are just so important and eye opening that it needs to be read.

Awarded: 5 Stars

I really hope that if you read or have read this book you can understand why this book is so important because as someone who has both lost family to cancer and lost my mum this book was such a significant read to me.

Until next time guys, happy reading!
