review 1: Poor Lerch. All he wants is a friend, but he can't get anyone to talk to him: not the pebbles, not the plastic diver and the bubbles just don't understand what he's saying. Then along comes the cat. Is the cat a friend? Is the fish Lerch or lunch? Is she dinner or dinah? It's always fun when a picture book has a plot twist that goes "against character." It's a good discussion starter with readers.
review 2: That made me laugh, especially the pictures. Poor guy--but hilarious to see him find a friend. Still not quite sure while the cat didn't eat Lunch, and wondering just how safe Lunch and Dinner are. (The play on names was hilarious, by the way.) Could work as a filler in storytime. Would be fun to get the kids involved in saying what Lerch does. Would the cat
... more part confuse them, too?Downside: One of the bubble pages was completely torn out, so I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I got the idea.2/12/14 My opener for the "Love" theme (going along with Valentine's Day). It was perfect. They followed along perfectly. Understood the humor. Didn't phase them that fish and cats could talk, but rocks and statues and bubbles do not. Adults and kids LOVED the end. Much fun. less
