review 1: Some people love this book. Others dislike it, and I am one of them. A woman is murdered some years ago. The murder is unsolved and a retired detective dies as he is returning to the case. His daughter tries to pick up the threads and encounters in the process a strange man, Jack. These are the two central characters in the book, and I could not really relate to either. There was also too much minor and boring detail, and I found the way the story developed implausible. At the least the book needed substantial editing.
review 2: I am not a lover of crime novels and think I must have downloaded this for free from Amazon. The beginning was slow and I skimmed it but then I really got interested in the story and didn't want to put it down until I found out what hap... morepened. Some bits were quite obvious long before they were revealed and other bits seemed superfluous but overall I enjoyed it as a change from my usual reading. Not ideal for reading late at night as touching on creepy in parts. less
