review 1: Lin Stepp has done it again! Down by the River is a can't-put-down book with characters I would like to have as friends. Grace shows such courage in leaving her old life behind after the death of her husband. Her grown children protest, but she follows her heart and buys an old Bed & Breakfast Inn in the beautiful Smoky Mountain area of Tennessee. Here she meets a seemingly bad boy type, Jack. As their love story unfolds, it is obvious that Jack is not as bad as he at first seems, and he and Grace are meant to be. As always with Lin Stepp, this is a clean book with characters that feel like old friends. Thanks, Lin for another great read! I will look forward to the next one!
review 2: Life changes for the widowed Grace Conley in Down By The River. It never... more enters Grace's mind that she can't be an independent woman, even though her own children and mother-in-law are patronizing with disapproval. When she takes ownership of the Mimosa Inn, she grows in strength to handle her new found happiness, a mystery, emotional crises, and new love. In the town of Townsend, TN, Grace finds friendship with the children to the pastor to her own daughter. Jack Teague is a single dad who is afraid to get close to another woman, until he meets Grace. He wants to stop running and change, but doesn't think he can. He bonds with Grace, but waits for his rogue nature to end it and wonders why it hasn't. "It's never too late to start over in life. Or to make changes." his mother Althea says to him. At Sunday services, Jack, along with Grace's daughter, Margaret, step forward to accept God's guidance,a spiritual enlightenment. Margaret, to make the correct decision between love and career. Jack, to accept his past as the past and to look forward to those new life changes he seeks.The children find their answer in their own crisis, a mystery is solved, love is found, and the families grow together as one, emotionally and spiritually. If you haven't read any of the Smokey Mountain series of books by Dr. Lin Stepp, read this. You'll enjoy it and want to read them all. less
