review 1: Great suspense, much of which made me extra aware of creaks in the house, but the story wasn't very well told. The shifting points of view were ok as long as the action was at a minimum, but when the story got going it was harder and harder to remember who we were hearing from. The ending dragged on for so long I finally skipped to the last pages. The adults in the story annoyed me to no end, since they should have told the kids what was going on. I guess that was supposed to be criticism to parents who don't give their children good reasons not to do something, and I'm glad the kids were angry about it. They had every right to be.
review 2: Long Lankin was a long read. It was also sometimes a slow read. But I never lost interest. I was never bored. The ch
... morearacters were all very believable. I like the fact that the author gave us bits and pieces in drips and drabs slowly from three different characters (Cora, Roger, and Aunt Ida). Cor and her little sister Elizabeth (aka Mimi) are sent to live with Aunt Ida in her big house that's falling apart. Their father is chasing schemes trying to make money. Their mother we learn is sick. Mostly from losing her sister at young age. The way the creature/monster itself (as well as the assortment of ghosts) as described is scary. It's an atmospheric scary read. For the authors first book a very good job. less
