review 1: Girls With Swords came into my life at a very opportune time. I had never read anything by the husband-wife Bevere team, but threw myself into this book as it was given to me and applied to my life so keenly. I even bought and now have a sword!I read some of the other reviews of this book, and here is mine. The message of this book is very relevant and timely, and women need to hear it. I would agree that although the beginning of the book is very exciting and reads very quickly, the middle gets heavy and slower. Many chapters randomly jump from paragraph to paragraph without a good flow or transitions. Some of the author's "turns of phrases" begin to go from clever and memorable to cloying and contrived. I honestly struggled to get through most of the second half. ... more I would say, with the exception of Lisa's personal accounts/stories, a good summary of this book would be just as helpful and applicable. HOWEVER, I do not regret wading through this book. It's message was still something I needed to hear, and the scriptural support was something to hold on to. We are waging a war, with battles daily, and it does us no good as women to live in denial.
review 2: Lisa Bevere has some very fundamental, yet powerful messages in this book. She uses the sword metaphor to describe how the Word of God can become living and active in our lives. I would recommend this read for any woman, but in particular, young women who would like to know more about who they are called to be and what it means to serve in the Kingdom of God. My favorite quote: So, Lovely One, it is up to you. You can run and hide, curse and cry in an attempt to escape the hardships of life and in the process be overcome. Or you can choose to allow adversity to be a crucible in your life that tempers your strength. (116) less
