review 1: This book was pretty much bad YA Divine Comedy fan fiction...but it was YA DIVINE COMEDY FAN FICTION, so of course I loved it. I mean, his name is Dante, and her middle name is Beatrice, and lots of other stuff that I can't mention because spoilers. But it was so great, and the voice was awesome. The style and the plot felt a little like the Pendragon series to me, which I'm totally cool with. =) The Hourglass Door was such a fun read, and I would totally recommend it if you like really nerdy, romantic, and/or classic good-vs.-evil YA.
review 2: This is the first book of a trilogy, and I do not plan to read the next two. I am having a difficult time putting my finger on the reason that I did not care too much for this book. Perhaps it has to do with my age rela
... moretive to those of the main characters, the latter being high school students; however, I have read other books with young characters and I did not have the same opinion. Of course high school is a special time, when teenagers think they know everything (before college or full-time jobs tend to show them otherwise), and it may have been that I did not thoroughly enjoy reading about the characters for that reason. I also did not care very much for the entire river and bank aspect of time, the building up of pressure if the time travelers did not return periodically, and so on.Overall, I give this a 5 out of 10. less

Can I just say WOW?Even though the story was about teens, the only thing that made it YA for me was when school activities were mentioned. I don't normally go for the time travel sort of stories. But this one was just WOW. I listened to the audiobook read by the author. And even though I needed to stop at disc 3 (but didn't!) and then at disc 5 (and still didn't!!) and by the end of disc 7 I knew any chance of sleep was impossible so I finished the whole thing. Now I'm anxious to move on to book 2 and 3 which I also have in the audiobook form, so I'm planning on a great weekend with getting a lot accomplished. Gotta love an occasional audiobook!!! If you haven't read this one, you should!!!
