review 1: I'm personally of the opinion that steam punk is excessively difficult to write. The Author makes an valiant try, but at the end of the day, I think I would rather see this on the screen. The details that define steam punk just take up WAY too much space in the written word to give enough of the authors vision, where an image, or movie can do in seconds. It's a decent story, and I think the author did a pretty darn good job walking the fine line of taking too long to paint a word picture, and keeping it concise. But it's exactly that concise-ness that prevented me from being able to really re-create this in my own mind, preventing me from loving this book. But, if she had been too verbose, I would be complaining about the length. So. It needs to be a movie, then the... more colors, and rivets, and details can all be shown simultaneously.
review 2: This book shows such potential and quickly dies at the 60 percent mark. 2.75 out of 5 points. I think the best part most of us will enjoy about the book is the back story behind the ability to put a clock inside a human and allow them to live. The author does an excellent job of opening the book and describing a steampunk environment with a new character that everybody is sure to love. Of course it goes without saying , she chooses to transition the book into a love story. Why the author finds it necessary to change a perfectly good steampunk novel into a love story is beyond my comprehension. I can only assume that she chose to do this to write more books in the series and it's just too bad. If you're looking for a good steampunk novel avoid this one, if you're looking for a new series to fall in love with and you're into romantic steampunk this one might be your next starting point. less
