review 1: I didn't care much for this story of 2 overprotective parents and their little boy; I stuck with it to learn who took the boy from the backyard one day. This novel had too many extremes: evil stepmothers, drug addicted sister, eternally patient husband to complaining and off balance wife. The character development was so heavy handed that I had no sympathy for these people. Rather, I didn't care about them.
review 2: Only when The Winters loose something do they wake up and start to live again. We all need to remember to appreciate what we have and not what we've lost.
