review 1: I picked up this book thinking that maybe Heart would be an ironically aromantic character, but it turns out she's just a regular girl afraid of relationships. That wasn't a big letdown, but the fact that there are two proms is. I kind of liked the idea of flipping a coin to decide which story to read (I just read both versions), but it seemed like just a way for the author to get out of choosing one. That was irritating especially at the end when Heart just acted confused about what she did because she was tired. That's the main thing wrong in the story, otherwise it's pretty good. I only rated it low because I'm not big on romance.
review 2: Actual rating is 3.5. The blurb for this book is actually quite misleading but this is one of the few instances that I
... morewas glad to be misled. The book actually ended up a lot better than expected but then my expectations weren't that high to begin with, considering the blurb gave me the impression that it's going to be another one of those usual love-triangle infested YA contemporary romances. But I ended up enjoying the book and the characters a lot, though the alternating stories (the date with Troy and the date with Ryan ) didn't work that well for me. It could get confusing especially for someone like myself who did not read the entire thing in just one sitting. Going back to the book every couple of hours or so (I was at work and could only read during breaks) had me asking, 'Uh what happened again in Troy's /Ryan's version of the story?' quite a few times. Personally, I'm still a bit unsure on how to feel about the alternating storylines. Sure,I liked knowing the similarities and the differences between both dates, but considering the endgame,I thought it would've been less confusing and would've bee more enjoyable --for me, personally--- to just stick with one version from the get-go. But I guess the book is simply trying to give emphasis on fate and how two different choices, two different journeys, can still result to the same outcome. less
