review 1: It was obvious that Lena is half mermaid quite early in the book. Yet she spends about a third of the book discovering this fact and another a third trying to figure out how to find her mother the mermaid. While I liked reading the part about her seeing the underwater world, I expected more of the book to be like that. I also felt like the ending was cheating. Wave hand/magic cloak/problem solved.
review 2: I did not like this book what so ever. I like to be challenged when I read, and reading this book was simply like looking at words on a page. The plot is awful and the characters have no depth. It's very hard to enjoy a book when the main character has no personality. The fantasy part of the book, (when Lena becomes a mermaid) is very corny and to be honest,
... more quite stupid. The first half of the book is extremely uneventful and slow and I was practically drooling while reading it, the next half was so rushed the author didn't even have time to describe anything to the readers. It was like reading over a storyline, no detail whatsoever. Everything that happens in the story is predictable and boring. I lost interest in reading the book almost as soon as I opened it. I was baffled that anyone would actually publish a book as pathetic as this, and quite surprised when I found that it was not written by an eight year old or even an immature teenager. Overall, the book is horrible and definitely not worth wasting your time on. less
