review 1: Reviewed By~Aubrey for Romancing the Book blogReview Copy Provided By~AuthorThe blurb for this novel had all my favourite things: time travel, Highlanders, witches and romance. Muir did a great job at creating a story that was new even if though she used themes that have been all the craze in the romance genre for some time. There is just enough from each theme without making it over the top or kitschy.Jillian is a woman who is trying to realize what her life is going to be like after her grandmother dies. She can now be the independent woman she has always wanted to be and not under her grandmother's thumb. Since her grandmother has passed away Jilly has wanted to travel to Scotland to visit the land her grandmother told her to stay away from. She meets the Muir sisters i... moren the library while researching her trip. The Muir sister convince her or rather conned her into going to the Ross castle.Jilly is a spunky, fiery, and sassy girl who finds herself in the 15th Century but does not quite understand how she got there. Neither do any of the people she encounters when she is released from a tomb. A romance ensues between Monty, the 15th century Highlander and her. While in her time travel to the past she encounters mystery and cannot seem to stay out of trouble. Monty and Jilly are both very strong characters that will make you laugh with their interactions. Jilly is compelled to save a couple hopes of it being what is needed to return to the present. It is well worth the read for anyone that enjoys a good Highlander romance. You must read the book to find out what happens between Monty and Jilly! I'm anxious to read the next book in the series.
review 2: Anyone who knows me well knows that I love highlanders. I make it my goal to read every book that has highlanders in it. And an added bonus for this one is that its also a time travel romance!Going Back for Romeo is about a young woman, Jilly, who was told all her life that Scotland and everyone there was bad -- especially a Ross man. After her grandmother dies, she defies everything her grandmother told her and goes to Scotland, accompanied by the Moir sisters, a pair of fiendishly hilarious twins. Events happen, and she finds herself in the past and awed by highland Laird, Monty Ross. Going back for Romeo was a cute little story, and it certainly is similar to Romeo and Juliet. It was hard to put down the book while following the adventure Jilly takes while trying to bring the scottish version of Romeo and Juliet together, all the while trying to deny her heart to the devishally handsome laird that seems to mess up her plans. The romance was more of a puppy love, and although I would have loved to see more of it, it was somewhat balanced by the action through out the book. It had everything from brawling to kidnapping. I was slightly dissapointed that the scenery wasnt too detailed, but then again I have always wanted to see scotland, so maybe it was wistful thinking and maybe it was detailed enough? The ending was confusing, hurried, and incomplete, but other than that, it was a marvelous book. I would totaly read the second book, and I recommend this one to anyone who wants to read about a headstrong highlander who is pigheaded at times, and how he waylays the plans of a Scotish-American woman from the future and they fall in love. Amazing book, adn I really saw no flaws with it (other than what I mentioned above) And my favorite thing about this book - other than the yummy guy in a kilt - was the fact that they "spoke" in their brogue, and it was historically correct with the way they spoke, dressed and acted. I rate this book a:4 out of 5 less
