review 1: This one was a smooth running story with a good dialog you came to expect from Ms. Chase writing. But it made me feel like a pearl diver who jumped to retrieve a promising oyster, opened it, and, instead of a beautiful pearl, found a small lackluster specimen. The story could be so much richer if the transformation of “The Harem Girl” to a member of the upper echelon of society was not done so quickly and smoothly. The heroine experience in captivity was sprinkled throughout the book and I kept thinking “wait, wait, stay there, show us how she truly felt, don’t skip to all these balls, dressmaking and Queen presentation”.
review 2: I like Loretta Chase's work a lot, but this was not her best in my opinion. The h/h were both hard to believe in, behave
... mored and spoke cheesily, and annoyed me. The little drama at the end was nearly pointless. Lots of explaining of things that seemed more like a lesson on the Regency time period than a integral part of the story. Is this one of her early works? I didn't check, but it reads like one. less
