review 1: Historical English fiction for childhood friends that haven't seen each other for many years, but kept up a correspondence that suddenly met each other anew as sexy adults. Then the usual happens with some help from their conspiring parents who set them up with a renovation trip to Scotland.I almost stopped reading because Olivia was flighty silly fluff. Lord Peregrine Dalmay, Earl of Lisle is serious as a rebellion from his silly melodramatic parents, I can imagine him rolling his eyes constantly whenever his parents talk to him. Of course, he falls for the opposites attract 'cousin' Olivia, but I wished he would have gone for a plain-Jane type to change up the story alittle. Childhood friends who become more is a common enough plot line in romance, there is a good reason... more for that, because it makes sense.Fun read with a silly but smart heroine who has always been in love with her childhood adventurer best friend who is too logical for his own good at times.361 pages and borrowed from the library3 stars
review 2: My favourite of the Carsington Brothers series, where a grown-up Olivia and Peregrine are thrown together again. It's got best-friends-to-lovers with all the history behind them, it's got protofeminist thought in the great character of Olivia where we get to see a great mind and the admission that her emotionalism isn't the problem it's part of her allure, there's a PUZZLE HUNT and Olivia cracking open the treasure with her lockpicking! less
