review 1: this is the story of a woman whose husband leaves her unexpectedly. she's been obese and somewhat of a recluse all her life, but she sets out on a quest to find him find him which takes her first to Toronto and then to California. in the journey she manages to find find how much she's deceived herself over the years and to make new friends, change of her eating habits, lose weight, and learn self-reliance. It's pretty much a fantasy although not intended as such, but its a pleasant fantasy and I enjoyed it.
review 2: where do I begin with this book? I believe this author may have some hidden problems that she may need to deal with at some point.She writes about a lady who is 302 pounds, and is so large that she smells, cannot keep herself clean. The characte... morer is evidently unable to purchase decent clothes, do she wrote the neighbors guys pants to get dad's funeral. I was disgusted by the fact that she deceived the women's vomit, and goes in detail describing the texture and density of the vomit as well as counting worms in her vomit. Needless to say I took the boom back to the library.I tried to skip ahead and see what happened to Mary's discussing husband, but just couldn't apache any more of Marys pathetic character. I have no clue what happened in the end. I don't care to try any other books by this author and I'm sorry that I tried this one. less
