review 1: It takes a while to get into the meandering way Landvik tells this story, but it's worth it. Funny and serious. It tells a story many people have: the story before. While I understand the reasons that may have led to including an epilogue, in general (and in this case), I find them pointless. Landvik ties up the stories of all the characters, but I don't feel that it's necessary. Often, when I am subjected to an epilogue, I find myself sort of nodding my head in the way I would if someone started rambling with their speech. The story had a point and made its point; there's no need for all the pretty bows at the end. Still, a fun read with an unforgettable and unique cast of characters.
review 2: This book was okay...it tried to accomplish too much. It had too
... moremany characters enter the story, it rushed through story lines, it had potential but fell a bit flat. After I was done I started to read the Acknowledgements (which I'm very hit or miss on) and in them I saw that it was semi-autobiographical. That's when it started to make sense. Our fictional stories can be created as we want them, but our true stories are far more complicated. How can the tapestry be woven when it's missing threads? All the bits and pieces in our lives feel the need to be told and it's too tricky to cut any out. less

Went on a little long, but was fun enough. Landvik is an engaging — and funny — writer.
