review 1: 33 days 1 dead, 46 days captured imprisoned 2.5 years, Graham to forgive, hate is self-destructive, devil at my heels, attention or recognition issue is self-esteem, shark liver food, not why what’s next, 97 years old, live as example of faith, need someone to care enough to not give up on, start with respectful attention, be patient for long view, accomplishment key to self-respect, crashed 8 weddings seniors knew, awareness equals survival, when wrong admit when right shut mouth, forgive like never happened.
review 2: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand is one of the most incredible stories I have ever read. It details life of Louis Zamperini, who in this book shares his story and the wisdom that he learned in his life shortly before his death at the age of 97. I
... more wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book already having read Hillenbrand's book as she is an excellent writer and I wasn't sure how Zamperini would necessarily add to her well-written story. I actually really did enjoy this book though. It's written in a much more folksy manner with Zamperini essentially telling stories from his life. It feels more much conversational as if you were sitting down with him and he's sharing things with you as he thinks of them as opposed to the tightly written, chronological tale that Hillenbrand wrote. I think reading Unbroken before you read this would give it much more weight, but I think they complement each other very well. less
