review 1: Mój jedyny problem z tą książką to sposób, w jaki autor przechodzi pomiędzy scenami. W szczególności chodzi mi o: "Tak minęło dziesięć lat, w tym czasie robił to co zawsze, spotykał ludzi i tym podobne. Jednym z tych ludzi był..." I wskakujemy tak znów w ciąg bieżącej narracji. W książce napisanej na naprawdę dobrym poziomie, to strasznie rażąco amatorski wybieg. Poza tym ma wszystko czego wymagam od lektury: pomysł, wyraźnych bohaterów i ciekawe przygody.
review 2: I could see Lucius Shepard becoming a favorite of mine. This is technically a collection, but it reads more like a novel--sort of like Bolano's 2666 if its subject were an immense dragon, miles long, 750 feet tall, and almost as old as the universe. Griaule manifests as a... more myth, a distant presence, a force of nature, a character, and even (pretty frequently) a setting. The novellas are uniformly great, with the possible exception of The Skull. There are echoes of Borges in Shepard's plotting, falling somewhere between magical realism, fantasy, and surrealism, and prose is never anything but lush. This is the second book of his I've read, after The Golden; this was more structured, but had a lot of the same appeal, and holds together better as a whole, despite covering a huge range of genres and subject matter. less
