review 1: First, I did something with this book that I hardly ever do, which was to purchase it without reading the sample, a friend's reference or knowing anything beyond reading the synopsis. The plot seemed different and intriguing and the price was right so I went for it. I think that there are a couple of things that I wished I had known before I purchased it which might have influenced my purchase that I will share. This is a story by a British author that is set in Britain; this is not a problem per say, but if you don't know and understand the slang and meanings behind them you can make assumptions about the implications but you do lose a little by not knowing. The subject matter is pretty deep, and to me it seemed to handled in a trivial manner; yes, I got the logic behind ... morethe implications, but with so many blended families today, it felt a little weird to me. Once I start a book, I am always committed to seeing it out to the end. I liked that this story was a story in itself, meaning no sequels or trilogies so it was wrapped up to a degree, but it still left me wondering. Also, I did not really connect to the characters or the intensity of their relationship, which I think added to the creepiness of their dynamic. Another issue was Danni's Mothers reactions to everything; I did not understand or agree with her parenting style or response, so I was a taken aback by it. Knowing what I know now, would I purchase the book? I'm not sure, I still think that the plot was interesting, I just felt that the story was rushed-had the potential to be much more.
review 2: Like a super bad episode of Jerry Springer, except less interesting.I thought the ending would close up the book nicely and maybe change my thoughts on the relationship and story altogether, but it didn't and it couldn't and I'm just stuck with the time I wasted with this book because it wasn't for me AT ALL. It was rather crude and weird and just...icky feeling. There's cheating, sex with an ALMOST relative, and lots of creepy ALMOST don't make sense blubbering between the two. Credit is definitely due to the author for originality, her writing, and bravery but these characters were just horrible IMO. ALL OF THEM? Why, yes. I didn't care for a single one. The idea for the story wasn't horrible. I liked that, actually. I just didn't like how CREEPY it came off. Gabe seriously gave me the freaking heebie jeebies. I just can't deal with the way he talked to her and came on to her. THERE WAS NO EASING INTO IT. Just WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA'AM.Sex factor: 9Sex rating: 4Twisted? x85309479857309237843...Creepy factor: 10Writing: 6Plot: 6Characters: 4Stars: 1 less
