review 1: A quiet novel that opens up into memoir (or does it? The reader can decide). It made me want to write down all the stories my family tell, to track down my parents, my aunts and uncles, and jot down their memories. I know that Jaramillo is skilled and talented, but his prose feel effortless; he makes the past shimmer. He creates such beauty in simple moments, and lets the reader believe that the small moments of her own life might be beautiful too.
