review 1: Until they become conscious, they will never rebel. I am utterly lost in a way how to reflect on this event. This 29 year old NSA intelligence system coordinator is exposed to major world-wide secret activities the government does in the name of protection of all citizens. He stands up to inform the public about some of those secret files which is absolutely the death sentencing himself given the job responsibility. Yet he still does it because HE HAS HIS VALUES that where he draws the line and throws himself into the public, tyranny, hero, betrayer, and espionage and all etc risks...and I wonder where I should draw my lines, MY VALUES...
review 2: Like him, or hate him, this book was a good read. I support why he did it, and I am not sure there was a better w
... moreay to get it done, but it is hard to not still dislike the way that he did it. I do not think he is a traitor, but close. I think the system should have allowed him to reveal the issue in a way that didn't take things so far. And I think if the system worked as nearly all Americans would like it to, it would have never gotten so far that we would even know who he was. I really liked that this was barely a political book. Each side can blame the other, but ultimately, this is a non-partisan issue. Now if we could only get a president with the 'strength' to allow him to come home, face some charges, but no more than a specific set, then I think the world would be a better place. He is not a traitor that deserves to be shot, but he also shouldn't get a free pass. He did a lot of good at the expense of a lot of bad, but I think if the fall out was handled correctly, this should have ended much more positively. Him being stuck is Russia, away from his family; it's embarrassing. I would definitely recommend this book. Not five stars because there seemed to be some parts that 'seem' like they could have been expanded on. I wanted to know more about him, maybe some of how he eluded the spooks, etc. All could have been done without revealing anything that was sensitive. less
