review 1: This short novella is basically 3 love stories. First the main one: Will Scarlet and Reese. Then there is an old established relationship: Sylas & Rebecca, the castellan & chatelaine of Rosethorn. But we also get the beginning days of Robin & Chris’ relationship in the next book ‘Stay the Night’. What is odd is that while the main love story is Will and Reece, the title refers to Sylas and his unusual talent (I love it). It’s a bit confusing, but keeps you interested. For a short novella, there’s a lot of complicated storyline crammed in. Also the prologue is a bit confusing for several reasons, but hang in there, it does get explained later. Quick Thoughts: 1)These Kyn are getting some pretty dangerous powers. They each seem to have to outdo the l... moreast. But so far Sylas’ water thing is my favorite (because I love water). 2)I think Ms. Thompson had her ‘hanged, drawn and quartered’ thing mixed up. I don’t recall there being and tarring involved. But then there’s always variations. 3)The ‘young lady’ mentioned in chapter two was a confusing detail, that if you weren’t paying attention you would not have caught the resolution in last chapter. It’s very subtle. Fave scenes: Sylas & Rebecca’s conversation when they wake up, hitchhiking with the truck driver, Rebecca entering Rosethorn to rescue Sylas and Reese changing places with Rebecca.
review 2: Very nice to read about the "side"-story to Stay the Night. Thought it was about Will Scarlet from what I read about it, but Master of the Shadows was so much more. Essentially love fighting the odds, and all ends well. But its the characters who wins it for me every time. Reese/Claris is revealed slowly and what a girl! How come it is a turn-on when the Darkyn men takes charge, pushes the women around but at the same time adores them more than life. Properbly not very political correct, but give me one of those ;-) less
