review 1: Whereas the Whedon book from the same series made me cry, this book made me laugh. Lots of interesting stories from fans - and a few more serious pieces on the nature of feminism in Who etc. I particularly loved the story of the young girl who was told she could only watch PBS because that was a serious documentary channel. Her mother told her that everything on the channel was factual. She spent years getting really bad grades in history with her teachers thinking she was just a bit off the wall. It was only when one of the characters died that her mother finally realised her mistake and had to sit her down and explain Dr Who was fiction. Reading this book on a plane also got me an extra packet of peanuts from the air hostess!
review 2: Interesting collection
... moreof articles, covering different aspects of fandom. I particularly enjoyed the Torchwood Babiez comic, and the essay by Carole E. Barrowman. Some of the con-centric articles blended together a bit for me, though I found the costume-based entry by Johanna Mead very interesting, as was The Tea Lady. I'd love to see a 2nd edition, with more up-to-date entries, incororating reaction to the show having changed showrunners, but still, all in all, an enjoyable read. less

One of my favorite books. Almost like an anthology really, with different women contributing.

A real surprise, I'd completely misjudged this book before reading. Longer thoughts to come.

As usual with a book of essays, some were better than others, but I enjoyed it overall.
