review 1: Telephone by Mac Barnett is a story that is much like the communication game we've all played before. It's a game in which we whisper a message to someone who then tries to relay the message to another and so on. Only Barnett steps it up a notch in this hilarious and silly picture book. The message outrageously changes as it gets passed on and ends in a surprise. This book reads like a comedy skit with a punchline. I love Jen Corace's illustrations, which add to the humor.
review 2: The classic game of telephone in picture book format. The illustrations are colorful, and the joke is funny, but I'm not sure how kids would take it. I think the joke is too high concept for preschoolers. It might be funny for first or second graders. It would present a good o... morepportunity for a teacher to discuss gossip with a class. This book didn't thrill me the way some of Barnett's other books do, but I can still see where it would have value. less
