review 1: I always enjoy a novel set in Africa. This one had a little of everything and was captivating enough to keep me reading. Quite a few twists and turns I didn't see coming, which normally is a plus for me, but I felt the author got carried away with that element at the end of the book. If you are looking for a "tidy" little ending, this book isn't for you. This book could have been so much better, but the author couldn't make up his mind whether it was a soap opera or a novel. It was the soap opera elements that started to irritate me after a while. This book had the potential to be a five-star book, but the author lost his direction and that is why I had to rate it at three stars.

Somehow it manages all of this without becoming cluttered or without anyone part taking focus away from the rest of the story. Worth reading. less
