review 1: This is Liam's school's One School, One Book and the most annoying thing about it is that Levine constantly references her upper-middle class audience. A lot of assumptions are made about her perceived readers that I found irritating. There are some good gems here mainly about looking at your children individually and figuring out who they are and what they need authentically. Meet your children where they're at. Examine where they find joy and curiosity. Examine your questioning when disciplining children. What questions are going to allow them to reflect and grow. Discover your child's strengths and grades shouldn't be the end all, be all. Where do they thrive? Where will they continue to thrive? One more thing that stood out. When kids are just hanging out qui... moreetly or "doing nothing", Levine says so much is happening in their brains. They are trying to figure things out and not to disturb them until they're ready and they'll give signs for when that is. They are processing. Her examples in the middle school and high school chapters were particularly telling. Maybe I shouldn't always be trying to force books into "bored" teens hands. Something that got me thinking.
review 2: I wouldn't call it a must read but I loved it! Just hearing someone reiterate things that I have felt but are not often talked about: failure is a part of growing, letting your children make their own mistakes, realizing that grades and sports are not all that life is made up of...it was refreshing in the chaotic world that our children our facing. High schoolers have so many pressures, and now it is dropping down to our middle schoolers! I'm still trying to enjoy my own 4 children without all the stressI. would definitely recommend although I don't agree with her complacent attitude towards sex and drugs... less

Tip 1: "We monitor their performance yet not their character."
