review 1: That agenda is being shoved hard in this book--especially since the poor misunderstood transvestite wouldn't have had to have committed murder if society wasn't so narrow minded & just accepted that she was a woman born in a man's body. UGH.Maggie feels that she's holding Marcus back from returning to school for his degree, so she decides to move into an apartment where the sleazy apartment manager has installed cameras & is selling pornographic photos of the inhabitants without their permission. He ends up dead at the hands of one of his tenants. Maggie & Marcus decide to live together in his house.
review 2: Basic Plot: An apartment manager's murder thwarts Maggie's attempt to keep Marcus from delaying his plan to go back to school.The mystery of this book wa... mores a lot more front-and-center than in the previous volume. It also seemed to be better thought out and slightly better written. It was certainly a more enjoyable read, with an interesting plot. Though I again have to say I realized what was going on LONG before the characters did. Though she did manage to keep the murderer a secret, and the details there were a little, well, out there.Alt seems to fluctuate back and forth in her writing with these books, some are definitely better than others and this was one of the better ones. They just aren't much in the way of intellectual stimulation for me. There's been some dispute as to when the next volume will come out (I saw a release date of Nov 2013), but I don't actually know if I will continue the series at that point. There are so many books on my to-read list that I think I might hunt up something that would rate more than 3 stars. At their best, these books only seem to get that far for me. less
