review 1: "Lady in Red" is as addictive and riveting as the first novel in the Mad Passions series. It is the story of Mary (abandoned to an asylum by her father) and Edward (a man who has lost his ability to feel anything). Their journeys to freedom from painful pasts will bring them together to defeat the obstacles they face and enable them to trust and love again. This series is unique and should not be missed. It is on my "Keeper Shelf".
review 2: 5 stars! This is a very dark romance so be warned. If you like your romances light and fluffy this book is not for you. Lady in Red is the story of Lady Mary and Edward, Duke of Fairleigh. Believed to be dead, Mary has been locked away in an asylum by her father (a Duke) as she holds a secret that could destroy him. The
... more novel begins with her escape to a brothel where her Mother's dearest friend is the Madam. It is there that she meets Edward who is instantly intrigued with her beauty and spirit. Mary has been traumatized during her stay in the asylum and her father has his men searching to return her to the madhouse. Edward is more than willing to become her protector as he desires her. He also sees himself in her as he is also a wounded soul with many demons from his past.I love a good dark romance and I couldn't put this book down. I read the first page and was hooked. Maire Claremont did an excellent job fleshing out both Mary and Edward. Both flawed, scarred individuals with baggage to spare that together can become whole again. I will definitely be picking up Ms. Claremont's first book in this series, The Dark Lady and anticipating the third book. A fabulous read that I would highly recommend. less
