review 1: Interesting book about 8 skulls which ahve to come together in order to ward off the destruction of the world. Timeline moves between 2007 and 1556. Based upon the Mayan prediction that a cataclysmic event awaits humanity in 2012. Historical facts are correctly conveyed and a lot of research has gone into the novel. Action is fast paced with a surprising conclusion. Enjoyed it immensely, however can't help feeling that the characters were not as fully developed as they could have been.

For the first few chapters I liked the modern strand more - but I quickly became more interested in the historical strand, which was more convincing and the characters more sympathetic. I like Manda Scott's writing, but I enjoyed her early thrillers more than her later books. The present-day story line in this book didn't quite ring true, for some reason. less

A very entertaining read. I felt that the last few chapters were rushed. I would recommend it.
