review 1: This was an interesting read about a girl who is studying abroad for a few weeks to prepare for her next year in high school. She is feeling left out so she goes and buys a pair of Prada shoes to make her feel better and then something happens and she ends up in 1815 London. If you are looking for a light-hearted read with a little bit of history and culture of outside London you will enjoy this read.
review 2: 2.5 stars. I hated the first 2/3's of this book, and then it started to grow on me.Genre: fish out of water, An American in 1815 EnglandSummary: Callie is hoping for a fresh start on a summer school trip to London. She buys a pair of Prada pumps in anticipation of this when she trips and is suddenly transported back to 1815 London. She is accidentally mi
... morestaken for Rebecca, an American heiress. Callie is swept into the Duke of Harksbury's estate where she befriends Emily and matches wits with Alex, the Duke of Harksbury, who she hates at first. Callie has to help Emily avoid an unwanted betrothal, navigate the tricky social waters and not fall for Alex.Response: I had a really hard time getting to like Callie. She was whiny and immature at the beginning of the book, and spent $400 dollars on shoes she couldn't even walk in. I don't know why the Prada was so necessary to the story. She even wore them regularly in the past, which wouldn't have worked at all.I think what frustrated me the most with the novel is the description of 1815 London. For someone who hasn't read a lot of Regency-era novels, the basic level introduction to the peerage system, the clothes and etiquette would be helpful, I guess. I just felt like the author was talking down to me. Callie was also a bit of a klutz, and that is just annoying. You can control your body, that shouldn't have to be a major character flaw. And she was constantly going on about how "hot" Alex was but how much she hated him, even though she didn't know him at all. less

It was pretty good. Callie pretty much represents all average teen girls.

It's a very cute tween book using a similar Pride & Prejudice plot.
