review 1: Do they make up the title and then write the story?The heroine has a unique voice that grated on my nerves. She's innocent and imaginative. And she just natters on and on inside her head over all the endless possibilities of what may happen or might happen and yada yada. Okay.The hero clings to guilt which accounts for his frozen heart. He's one of those heroes where all of his horrible sins happen off-screene. Aside from getting drunk one time, he's moral, upright, honest, boy next door type.Okay, so he was married once and that didn't go very well. Drowning in guilt, he decides he doesn't deserve happiness.I've read to many of these stories where I'm lead to believe the hero is guilty of some horrible deed - only to have the event related in a way as to make him almost i... morennocent (okay, he could have been a nicer person but what a bitch he had for a wife). I really do prefer those stories where the H or h really have committed some horrible sin and must find redemption.Okay story because I finished it.
review 2: Ok, Rafe's guilt was WAY too over-wrought for me. I realize this was one of the primary plot points, but it was just completely overplayed. That said, I really enjoyed this book. Rafe was compellingly likeable--probably because you wanted to reassure him of his worth!! Henrietta was, of course, delightful with her naivety and complete honesty. The ending was also a little too abrupt to be believable. Rafe had spent years carrying this guilt around, then he spends one night considering Hentrietta's arguements, and, POOF, he's over it! To re-cap, this was a delightful romance with compelling primary characters and and great dialogue. I just wish the author had toned down the angst. less
